Large rock structures jut from the ground around the territory, offering its inhabitants relief from the midday heat. The nights are cold, but the horses are much more suited for that - it's when they tend to go out and find food, even with the risk of predators. The moon provides plenty of light, and only around the new moon do they regularly go out to graze during the day.
