Season: Summer Year: One
Major Weather: The summer is starting to show signs of being one of the worst yet, with temperatures already climbing and the water beginning to dry up in the furthest reaches of the South.
Oh, what a day. At least, that is what the dual colored mare was thinking as she roused from her slumber. Her land, her territory. It did have a nice ring to it you know. Back legs lifted up, one after the other, as she stretched them out behind her and then settled them back to the ground below. Every movement she made was slow, and purposeful. After all, you never know who might be watching. Ears flicked around, swiveling slowly atop her head as she took account of her current surroundings. Alone. This, wasn't a bad thing though. She didn't want any old mare or stallion just wandering their way on to her lands.
The sun was peaking down through the trees, catching the dew droplets that had settled on the leaves of the underbrush. It made the area look like an ethereal wonderland. Welcoming and beckoning to those who happened upon it. The earth softly crunched beneath her hooves as she made her way down towards a stream that ran through her territory and brought life to her land. The sound, and smell, of flowing waters was caught upon her senses. Nostrils flared out, as ear perked forward, as she approached it. A smirk curved at the corner of her mouth then and a gentle sigh escaped her lips. This was home.
Head was lowered to wrap lips about luscious sweet spring grasses as they grew upon the side of the bank. Lifting head back up she lazily chewed upon them, back hoof setting up to tip of hoof so she could relax. She loved her mornings. So calm and quite. She had found a spot where the sun was able to break through the foliage and it was here that she stood, warming her body with the suns natural light.
An uncharacteristically warm spring wind tickled his ribs as it washed over him, as if the very air was trying to rouse him from his fat-bellied slumber. Akanthys almost did not stir.
Almost.
A lazy grin pulled the corners of his wide mouth even wider. He was awake, really, but sort of dozing on the rocky, sun-warmed shore. He lay flat on his right side on the dry, warm lake shore just barely out of reach of the cold, lapping water.
He'd spent the cool spring night gorging himself on lush grasses and all the good shit he could find, with great success. This was a place of fucking plenty.
All y'need is tail, thought the golden stallion. He allowed himself his little joke with a tongue-in-cheek delivery: when there was tail to be had, Akanthys typically needed to pay for it.
If he'd been the type to have an active imagination -- or any imagination at all -- he might have allowed himself to dream that the rustling, muffled movements he heard in the brush nearby were the sounds of his wishes being granted. Some supple young thing with a pretty face and low self-esteem come to give a kiss to daddy, right?
In reality it was probably some hired muscle come to chastise the trespasser, and Akanthys would be forced from this paradise before the morning dew was dry.
Still, he felt it might be bad form to complain, all things considered.
Fuckin' paradise, mate.

Eventually the mare made her way down to the shore of the lake. Her territory backed up to it, as the others did. To her, at least, there was an unspoken rule of no attacking here, a sort of unspoken oath so that one would not be attacked upon their weakest moments. She would step out into the light, the sun lighting up the white markings and her buckskin coat. Eyes took a steady roam around the shore before they came to a stop on the stallion all stretched out in his glory. She snorted, ears pinned forward and head lifted as she stared at him, unsure as to who he was.
Another snort escaped her before she shook her head, the long dark mane splitting as it fell on either side of her neck. Ears flicking forward and then back as she moved towards the cool water and lowered head down to taste of the sweet water. She kept her attention upon the brute, watching him closely, probably as close as he was watching her. After a moment of her refreshing drink she would lift her head up slightly, water trailing down over her chin and dripping to the lake below. One last swallow and she would open her mouth, letting the words slip from between lips.
"Hello there..."
The words trailed off as she eyed the stallion. Unsure as to what her next move would be. She stood her ground though, she didn't want to come off as some soft little princess after all did she? Besides, she didn't even know who this stallion was, or where he was from. Perhaps he was of the north! And looking for a home. He was well muscled, from what she could see. He would make a good brute for her herd. Mind was swirling with different thoughts as she waited to see what his move would be.
